NTT Com Asia Helps to Foster IPv6 at Vietnam National Task Force Meeting

(Hong Kong, 21 September 2009) NTT Com Asia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), participated in a national meeting to help foster IPv6 technology in Vietnam on 14 August 2009. Hosted by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC), the meeting enabled NTT Com Asia to share the NTT group’s extensive know-how and experience with IPv6 with industry leaders. A total of 47 major ISPs and carriers joined this latest move towards the deployment of IPv6 nationwide in 2011.

VNNIC, which is under the Ministry of Information Communication, is the official body governing Internet resources in Vietnam. Mr Tran Minh Tan, the Center’s Deputy Director General and Chief Coordinator of the National IPv6 Task Force, said, “NTT Com Asia has always been dedicated to promoting IPv6. VNNIC is delighted to receive support from a professional provider like NTT Com Asia to add impetus to the implementation of IPv6 technology in the near future.”

NTT Com Asia, the only global carrier invited to speak at the forum, has well-established relationships with carriers and ISPs in Vietnam, supporting them with global IP transit services. Mr Ricky Lo, Executive Vice President of NTT Com Asia’s Global Network Business Division, remarked, “We feel honoured to be part of this iconic event and appreciate the opportunity to share our latest IPv6 technology with local industry elites. We look forward to enhancing local Internet technologies and capabilities in collaboration with VNNIC.”

NTT Com’s Mr Naoki Wakai, Vice President of the IP Business Department, and Mr Kempei Fukuda, Director of Global Network, also attended the event to inform delegates about NTT Com’s latest achievements with IPv6 technology, including new trends in IPv4/IPv6, plans for deployment of IPv6, and the company’s Tier 1 IPv6 backbone, one of the largest in the world.

Mr Wakai commented, “We are pleased to see that Vietnam will help to pioneer the region’s transition to the next-generation Internet in the foreseeable future. By providing local ISPs with important opportunities to explore the IPv6 community’s latest insights and perspectives, this meeting marks an important milestone in Vietnam’s development and deployment of IPv6.”
