A fire occurred at NTT Communications’ construction site in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate at 6:28am on December 19, 2014 and was contained at 8:32am on the same day. No personal injury was reported. The location of the incident was completely segregated from the existing data centre tower and office tower. All facilities, services and operations of the company remain unaffected. The company also activated Business Continuity Plan immediately that morning for contingency.
According to the Fire Services Department of the HKSAR Government, the fire was caused by a short circuit of a temporary electrical distribution board for construction use. Our main contractor of the construction project has conducted risk re-assessment on major work procedures and extra precautionary measures covering all fire protection activities from planning, supervision, execution, verification to awareness training, with particular focus on temporary electrical systems.
NTT Communications highly appreciates the Fire Services Department for their efficient and professional support. Our immediate concern is for the benefits of our clients as well as ongoing safety and wellbeing of our employees and workers in the area.
The construction work resumed on 29th December 2014 after inspection completed.
