NTT Communications Leads the Way in Ensuring Smooth Transition to IPv6

Official IPv6 sponsor for APRICOT-APAN 2011 proves industry excellence

 

(Hong Kong – 17 Feb 2011) With global IPv4 addresses nearing total depletion, the transition to IPv6 – the next-generation internet protocol – can no longer be delayed. NTT Com Asia Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, today announced the sponsorship of 10Gbps IPv6 Global IP Transit Service for APRICOT-APAN 2011. Since NTT Communications launched the world’s first commercial global IPv6 backbone in 2001, the company has been leveraging its leading technological expertise in IPv6 networks to ensure a smooth transition for its customers.

APRICOT-APAN 2011, the biggest internet conference in Asia Pacific, will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 21-25 February. The unprecedented event is jointly held by the APRICOT (Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies) and APAN (Asia Pacific Advanced Network). APRICOT-APAN 2011 is joined by several other noteworthy conferences, including the meeting of APNIC 31 (31st Asia Pacific Network Information Centre), which is the coordination body in Asia Pacific for the allocation of internet addresses, including both IPv4 and IPv6.

The Number Resource Organization (NRO) officially announced on 3 Feb 2011 that the free pool of available IPv4 addresses is now fully depleted. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) allocated the last five /8 blocks of IPv4 address space to five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) on 31 Jan 2011, according to the Global Policy for the Allocation of the Remaining IPv4 Address Space. This means that there are no longer any IPv4 addresses available for allocation from the IANA to the five RIRs.
