NTT Communications, Emerson Network Power Shortlisted in DatacenterDynamics’ Asia Pacific Awards 2016

NTT Com Hong Kong Financial Data Center Tower 2 (FDC2) achieves high energy efficiency using green technology from Emerson Network Power

Singapore, 4 October 2016 – NTT Communications’ Hong Kong Financial Data Center Tower 2 (FDC2) project has been shortlisted at the DatacenterDynamics (DCD) Asia Pacific Awards 2016 under the Critical Environment Future Thinking and Service Data Center Provider of the Year categories. The FDC2 project is a Tier IV-ready data center, utilizing green thermal management technology powered by Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson and the world’s leading provider of critical infrastructure for information and communications technology systems.

“We are honored to be among the organizations who have been shortlisted for this prestigious award,” said Taylor Man, Chief Technology Officer, NTT Com Asia. “The Hong Kong FDC2 was designed to address the growing demands of our customers in Hong Kong and in Asia amid this evolving technology landscape. We set out to build an infrastructure that is not only highly efficient, but is also flexible, cost-effective and offers the best services to our customers in their journey of digital transformation. With the help of Emerson Network Power’s technology expertise, we were able to achieve just that. We look forward to fostering our partnership with them further in the years to come.”

Located in a parcel of 30,000 m2 land in Tseung Kwan O, the FDC2 project makes use of an innovative Cooling Wall -- a front-flow cooling system with hot aisle containment developed in partnership with Emerson Network Power and first introduced in Hong Kong. This green thermal management technology features a new front-flow cooling system, which is designed to optimize both energy usage and cost of the data center. The Cooling Wall keeps power consumption to a minimum, while ensuring that the critical infrastructure is online at all times. The result is a 20 percent improvement in energy efficiency compared to traditional cooling systems.

“Our thermal management technology is unparalleled in bringing out efficiency through cost and carbon footprint reduction. This innovative and game changing technology is developed in response to today’s industry that demands energy efficiency yet maximum uptime to remain competitive. We congratulate NTT Communications for this great honor,” said Por Lau, managing director of Emerson Network Power in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The DCD Asia Pacific Awards 2016 recognizes outstanding individuals, organizations and projects for excellence and innovation. Winners will be selected through a rigorous judging process by an independent panel of industry experts. The Critical Environment Future Thinking category recognizes the innovation and thinking that is shaping the next generation of cutting edge data center solutions. Winners must demonstrate the ability to develop solutions that will make a real and positive difference to data center design, operation and management.

Aside from the Critical Environment Future Thinking category, the same FDC2 project has also been shortlisted in the Service Data Center Provider of the Year category. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on November 9 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre during Hong Kong’s Data Center Week.
