NTT Communications Closes Land Acquisition - the First Service Provider to Build a Tier IV Ready Data Center in Hong Kong
Demonstrating the Group’s confidence in the promising prospect of Hong Kong
as an ICT hub in Asia
(Hong Kong – 7 Oct 2010) – NTT Com Asia, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporations (NTT Com), today announced that the NTT Com group has acquired a 30,000 m2 of land for developing a new data center in Hong Kong. Scheduled to be launched in 2013, this new data center is expected to be the first Tier IV* ready and the largest one developed by data center service provider in the city, complementing Hong Kong’s position as an ICT hub in Asia.
Following the launch of NTT Com’s Tier III+ data center in Tai Po, Hong Kong last year, the company further demonstrates its commitment to the market by establishing a new data center here that is purposely built, Tier IV ready and three times larger than the previous one to meet the exquisite demands of the market. Located in Tseung Kwan O, the facility will be a complex of data center and office buildings.
“We are highly impressed by the performance of our data center in Tai Po, with half of the space already been occupied and more than double growth in revenue since its launch last year. This reflects the huge market demand for high quality data center and also reaffirms Hong Kong’s edge as an international financial and communications hub. Our data center in Tai Po is expected to be fully occupied in the coming two years; and with the new data center we could further enhance our competence to providing seamless top standard data center services for clients,” said Mr. Takanobu Maeda, President and CEO of NTT Com Asia. “Demonstrating our commitment to Hong Kong, we are targeting to create over 3,000 job opportunities in the market in the coming 10 years.”
NTT Communications and its subsidiaries provide data center services in 20 countries/regions outside of Japan. This new data center in Hong Kong will be the largest one under the group outside of Japan, featuring sophisticated infrastructure design in terms of power, network, cooling system and facility management to optimize the environment to ensure fault tolerant and high efficiency.
